The Bangalore University will not give gold medals this year too. On Friday, the gold medallists will receive cash prizes instead at the convocation. Reason: Years ago, donors instituted gold medals to encourage students. The interest from the fixed deposits was used to give the medals. Now, the gold price has shot up and the amount is not enough to finance the medals.apr 30-04-10
